Course Content

This course will discuss a variety of topics including:

  • Exploring what gang and youth violence is and the links to County Lines, knife crime, child and sexual exploitation
  • Understanding grooming, Human Trafficking and Modern-Day Slavery
  • Identifying vulnerability indicators and how to spot the signs
  • Analysing the effects of gang and youth violence
  • Knowing how to support and report

Learning Objectives

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain what a gang is, a criminal network and the links to knife crime
  • Discuss the history of ‘gangs and crime’ and how serious the problem is in the UK
  • Explore why children and young people join gangs, understand that girls are in gangs also and how gangs exploit children and young people to do their work
  • Explain what we can do to stop our children and young people being drawn into gangs and what to do if they have already been drawn in
  • Identify support networks, policy and guidance and where to get help
  • Understand vulnerability factors in relation to home environment, personal and community factors
  • Explain what the meaning of grooming is, child criminal exploitation, child sexual exploitation and County Lines and how these offences can link to Human Trafficking and Modern-Day Slavery
  • Explore warning signs and symptoms and the things to think about
  • Describe how to report a concern and where to go for support and guidance
  • Discuss how to look after ourselves and our well-being
